A GIRL IN BLACK
Michael Cacoyannis (1956)

Two wealthy Athenians, writer Pavlos (Dimitris Horn) and architect Antonis, visit the picturesque island of Hydra and rent rooms in the large, dilapidated home of widow Frosso (Eleni Zafeiriou). Frosso’s unconventional relationship with a local man creates tension for her children, Marina (Elli Lambeti) and Mitsos (Anestis Vlahos), who are deeply embarrassed.

As Pavlos begins a romance with Marina, it provokes Mitsos' anger and Christos', a fisherman who is infatuated with Marina (Giorgos Fountas) jealousy. Christos, who is infatuated with Marina, sabotages Pavlos’ boat, leading to a tragic accident. The resulting atmosphere of grief and blame threatens to overshadow the romance between Pavlos and Marina, making their future together seem increasingly uncertain.

This movie is personally one of my favorites as Elli Lambeti and Dimitris Horn are some of my favorite Greek actors and I have a soft spot for them. In addition, as some of you may know Hydra is a very special place for me. The was shot on the island with a single camera.
